San Angelo ISD Announces New Principal and Leadership for the 2025-2026 School Year
May 12, 2025
The San Angelo ISD Board of Trustees unanimously approved two leadership appointments for the 2025-2026 school year, reinforcing the district’s focus on academic excellence, safety, and community.
Ashley Bishop - Principal of Lamar Elementary School
Mrs. Ashley Bishop has been named the new Principal of Lamar Elementary School, replacing Shannon Klepac. Mrs. Bishop steps into this role after serving as the Lions’ assistant principal since 2022. With nearly two decades of educational experience, she began her career as a first-grade teacher in San Antonio before joining San Angelo ISD at Goliad Elementary, where she served as a teacher, team leader, and instructional coach. Mrs. Bishop holds a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Angelo State University. Her passion for building a strong school community and preparing future-ready graduates makes her an excellent choice to lead Lamar Elementary forward.
“I am incredibly honored and excited to step into the Principal role at Lamar,” Bishop said. “During my time as assistant principal, I’ve had the privilege of experiencing firsthand the heart, dedication, and spirit that make Lamar truly special. That journey has only deepened my commitment to our students, staff, and families. I look forward to continuing our shared path—building on the strong foundation we’ve created and helping Lamar grow and thrive in the years ahead.”
Claudia Becerra - Director of School Safety and Student Services
Mrs. Claudia Becerra has been named Director of School Safety and Student Services. She brings a wealth of experience in alternative education and student-centered leadership. As Principal of the Carver Learning Center (DAEP) since 2019 and Academic Alternatives Coordinator at the PAYS Alternative Campus since 2016, Mrs. Becerra led a comprehensive redesign of processes for student intake, behavior support, and transition planning. Mrs. Becerra has been a member of the San Angelo ISD family since 2009, serving in roles ranging from classroom teacher to campus administrator. Her dual-language proficiency, data-informed leadership, and deep commitment to student success make her uniquely suited to serve the diverse needs of our San Angelo ISD community.
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the students and staff at PAYS and Carver Learning Center,” Becerra said. “I look forward to supporting alternative campuses, leading district safety and emergency preparedness efforts, and serving as a resource for student services. It is a privilege to help create safe, inclusive, and effective learning environments for all students across our district.
