Description

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The San Angelo Police Department and TLCA San Angelo have taken action after receiving multiple reports of a potential threat issued online and directed toward TLCA campuses.

The SAPD issued its first public announcement regarding the threat during the evening hours of March 5, in which it stated that it was "aware of a potential threat towards TLCA campuses that is spreading via social media" and was "actively investigating this threat." While the threat was not believed to be valid, the SAPD stated that it was working with TLCA San Angelo to ensure the safety of those on the academy's campuses.

Then, in the early morning hours of March 6, TLCA San Angelo made an announcement of its own to provide updates and further information about the situation. The academy stated that the "SAPD found that two minors decided it would be fun to do a prank," with one student from outside the TLCA community influencing a student to make a post with what appeared to be a firearm.

Evidence gathered through an SAPD investigation indicated that the "firearm" used in the post was not an actual gun. According to TLCA San Angelo, the TLCA student involved in the incident lives in a home that does not have firearms.

TLCA San Angelo stated that both minors could now face charges, with the student attending the academy also facing expulsion.

"We have a zero-tolerance policy for this kind of behavior," TLCA San Angelo said. "The student will not be on our school campus."

TLCA San Angelo said that it plans to have school as usual on May 6, albeit with added security. The SAPD will also conduct additional patrols around San Angelo's TLCA campus.

"Thank you for your patience as we worked through a process to provide you with the facts," TLCA San Angelo said. "We value our TLCA family, and thank you for trusting us with your students."
