SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — A San Angelo man has received 17 years in confinement after pleading guilty to a charge of indecency with a child by sexual contact.

According to the Tom Green County District Attorney's Office, 32-year-old John Barry Suksta pled guilty to the offense on April 4. After a hearing on April 15, Suksta received a 17-year sentence in a penitentiary in exchange for his guilty plea. The sentence is three years shy of the 20-year maximum sentence one can receive for the offense, according to the District Attorney's Office.

"Prosecuting crimes against children involves a team effort," the District Attorney's Office said. "We want to thank everyone involved in investigating this case, including the San Angelo Police Department and Hope House. Our office remains committed to working closely with the victims in these cases and seeking justice for our children and our community."

Suksta's actions would first come under the eye of the law on March 12, 2021, when a young female claimed that she was sexually abused by him. Officer Manuel Reyes and Detective Bobby Elrod with the San Angelo Police Department were notified about the sexual abuse. The female was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center and disclosed that the female was abused on more than one occasion.

"We applaud the young lady who had the strength and courage to confront her perpetrator," the District Attorney's Office said. "We hope that this will start the healing and recovery process and that she can now move forward from this awful period in her life."
