SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage)—Tina Glass says she's always had a passion for helping others. But when she became a single mom to two young girls, that passion grew even stronger. She became a youth pastor at First Presbyterian Church and held that title for 20 years.

After retiring, she found a new way to serve.

"I started working with Homeless Ministry here," said Glass. "I just poured myself into that, and it has become a really big piece of my heart."

She's also a member of the newly formed Homeless Task Force.

"So, we're trying to come up with different ways to solve the homeless crisis in San Angelo because it has become really huge," said Glass. "We do hot meals on Sunday here at First Presbyterian Church. That started out as just serving a to-go lunch bag, and it's turned into where I and a team of people actually cook a hot meal every Sunday for the food-insecure. That number has gone to where we were just doing 70 or 80 and now 120 to 150 every week. And we are the only place that serves lunch on Sundays."

Glass said finding out she was nominated for Remarkable Women was overwhelming.

"I can't even find the words for it. [I was] very humbled when I got the phone call because I don't think of myself, all the time, or at all really, as remarkable," said Glass. "People tell me all the time, 'Well, you're doing a great job at this or that,' but I don't know. It's just very humbling."

What is Glass's definition of a remarkable woman?

"I think a remarkable woman is someone who injects herself into the community and tries to make the community a better place to live for all people," Glass said, " not just for those that some people deem worthy."

She's been putting her definition into action all her life.

"My motto in life has always been 'Love big,' so I try to share that love with as many people as I can."
