SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team opens its postseason run this weekend in Canyon as it competes at the Lone Star Conference Tournament on the campus of West Texas A&M. The Rambelles open the tournament against Eastern New Mexico, the sixth seed, on Thursday at 11 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The Rambelles closed the regular season by splitting doubleheaders against Midwestern State and No. 1 West Texas A&M. The Rambelles won the first game on each day by a 7-0 score line as they handed the nation's top-ranked team their largest defeat this season. 

RAMBELLES RANKED NO. 7

The Rambelles are ranked seventh in the latest version of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll, marking their sixth consecutive week in the seventh spot. The Rambelles are in the nation's top ten for the first time since the 2022 season and were in the top five for the first time since the beginning of the 2021 season. 

RAMBELLES IN REGIONAL RANKINGS

The Rambelles ranked third in the NCAA South Central regional rankings, released last Wednesday. The field will be announced on Monday, May 5th at 9 a.m. Central time on ncaa.com. 

FLOYD NAMED LSC PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Cheyenne Floyd was named the LSC Pitcher of the Week for her play in the circle this past weekend against MSU and WT. Floyd struck out 17 batters in 13.1 shutout innings across her two appearances, only issuing one walk. Only one runner reached second base in each game, and no runner touched third with Floyd in the circle. Floyd enters the postseason with an LSC-best .171 opponent batting average. 

FLOYD RECORDS

Senior pitcher Cheyenne Floyd continues to put her name all over the career record book at Angelo State. The senior is second in program history in career ERA (1.94) and is first in opponent batting average (.198). Her 451 strikeouts for the Blue and Gold are the second most, and her 50 wins are the seventh most. 

SCOTT PASSES 1K CAREER WINS

Head coach Travis Scott won his 1,000th career game on Friday, March 28th, against UT Permian Basin. He is the first coach to win all 1,000 games in the Lone Star Conference. He won his first 101 games at Southeastern Oklahoma before winning the following 914 games at the helm of the Rambelles softball program.

  • Angelo State is 43-11 on the season and 34-10 in conference play; the Rambelles are 5-0 at neutral site games this season. 
  • The Rambelles have exceeded the 40-win mark for the first time since 2018. 
  • The Rambelles hit .316 as a team with a .515 slugging and a .419 on-base percentage. The Rambelles average 6.4 runs per game. 
  • Five Rambelles are hitting above .300 this season, led by Laylonna Applin's .446 batting average. Applin also leads the team in doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
  • Applin is second in the country in total bases with 148.
  • Ashton McMillan is hitting .358 and is second on the team with 46 RBI. 
  • Averie Gunther owns a .355 average this season; she has been hit by 18 pitches, the second-most in the LSC. 
  • Tatiana Trotter hits .333 this season and is second on the team in home runs, slugging percentage, and walks.
  • Erin Plunkett is hitting .311, leading the LSC with 42 walks and second in the conference with 28 stolen bases.
  • The Rambelles' pitching staff has a 2.47 ERA and 259 strikeouts in 348.1 innings. Their opponent's batting average is .238 this season.
  • Cheyenne Floyd is 24-5 with two saves and a 1.59 ERA; she has 170 strikeouts in 150 innings. Opponents are hitting .171 against Floyd this season. 
  • Floyd is tied for fourth in the country with 24 wins this season.
  • Matie Wolkow has nine career saves, one off tying the school record of ten, currently held by Morgan Hill.
  • The Rambelles have turned 22 double plays this season, 19th in the country. 
  • The Rambelles' .977 fielding percentage is the second-best in Division II and the best in the LSC. 
  • Abby Brand has thrown out 11 potential base stealers, the second-most in the conference.

  • Eastern New Mexico is 30-24 on the season and 23-21 in LSC play; they are 7-3 on neutral fields this season and went 14-14 in West Division play. 
  • The Greyhounds are hitting .314 as a team, with a .489 slugging percentage and a .404 on-base percentage. They average 6.2 runs per game.
  • Aylene Lucero leads the team with a .421 average. She has stolen a team-best 15 bases.  
  • Alondra Vasquez is hitting .392, leading the team with 11 home runs and 49 RBI. 
  • Christina Meneses hits .357, while Valeria Contreras is hitting .349 with ten stolen bases. 
  • The Greyhounds' pitching staff has a 4.77 ERA and has struck out 272 batters in 358 innings. Opponents are hitting .282 against the Greyhounds this season.
  • Freshman Miranda Guillen leads the team with a 15-5 record and a 3.20 ERA. She has struck out 131 batters in 131.1 innings and has held opponents to a .217 batting average. 
  • The Rambelles are 68-11 against the Greyhounds and 2-0 on neutral fields. The Rambelles won all four games in the regular season by a combined score of 35-15. 
  • This is the first-ever matchup in series history to occur in the postseason. 

SCOUTING THE REST OF THE FIELD

  • West Texas A&M and UT Tyler were the LSC regular season champions, and the Lady Buffs earned hosting rights on a tiebreaker. 
  • The Lady Buffs take on the eight-seed St. Edward's, while the Patriots face Cameron in the quarterfinals. 
  • The LSC's top two teams met in the LSC Championship last season as the Lady Buffs won their sixth LSC Tournament title, 8-0, in a six-inning run rule. 
  • UT Tyler won three straight LSC titles from 2021 to 2023.
  • WT and UTT swept their quarterfinal opponents during the regular season. 
  • Oklahoma Christian and Lubbock Christian will face off in the fourth-fifth matchup. The two teams split their games on February 16th. 
  • The Eagles and the Lady Chaps are seeking their first LSC Tournament Championship in program history. 
  • The Eagles appeared in the 2023 LSC Tournament final, where they were walked off by UT Tyler, 4-3, in East Texas. 
  • The Rambelles have won seven LSC Tournament Championships, the most in the conference. They have made a conference-high 11 title games but are looking for their first appearance since the 2018 season. 
  • The Rambelles went 0-3 in the postseason in 2024 and are seeking their first postseason victory since the 2022 South Central Regional. 
  • The winner of WT-SEU will take on the winner of OC-LCU in the semifinals, while the ASU-ENMU winner will take on the UTT-CU winner on the other side of the bracket. The semifinals are scheduled to begin on Friday at 2 p.m.
  • The tournament final is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m.
