SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Angelo State women's tennis team continues their Florida trip as they take on No. 6 Flagler on Thursday, Mar. 20th at the USTA Tennis Center.

 

Match 13

No. 18 Angelo State vs No. 6 Flagler

March 20th - 11 a.m.

Head Coach Jason Potthoff has started his third spring season strong, setting a new program record starting the season, 12-0. Last season, the Belles made it to round 16 for the first time in program history. Belles tennis is currently ranked 18th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll.

 

The Belles are coming into the contest 12-0 after defeating No. 7 Nebraska-Kearney 4-3, and Lewis University, 5-2.

 

No. 6 Flagler is coming into the match losing their last contest 7-0 to No. 2 Nova Southeastern. The Saints have a 9-2 overall record.  The Saints have the No.4 ranked singles player in Dana Heimen who is coming into the contest losing her last match 6-3, 6-2, and is 7-3 in her last 10 matches. 

 

This will be the first match between Angelo State and Flagler in program history. 

 

The Rambelles are 49-17 in singles play, with freshman Margaux Rene leading the way starting her collegiate career 10-2 through the first 12 contests of the year, and is ranked 27th in singles play. Rene defeated Amelie Gindl 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 for her first win against a ranked opponent. Gindl was sixth in the nation at the time of the match. Rene recorded her second win against a ranked opponent when she defeated the 75th-ranked singles player Jessica Bohnert 6-0, 6-2. Avery Durham is continuing her dominant form as she is 8-0 coming into the biggest matchup of the year. Ivet Stancheva is 9-2 helping clinch many match victories this season.

 

In doubles play, the Belles are 20-10 overall, led by the No. 8 ranked doubles pairing, Avery Durham and Eva Schwartz who currently have a 7-1 record.

 

Stancheva was named the Player of the Week for her performances against Central Oklahoma and Missouri Western.
