SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — San Angelo-based news stations KLST and KSAN have earned special recognition from a statewide media association as part of its 2024 Texas Broadcast News Awards.
The Texas Association of Broadcasters, an Austin-based trade association founded in 1953, hosted the 2024 Texas Broadcast News Awards' celebration ceremony on April 13. Held for the first time in 2022, the awards are meant to recognize "outstanding broadcast journalism produced by member Radio and TV stations serving local communities throughout the state," according to TAB's website.
During each year's awards competition, TAB takes entries from media outlets across the Lone Star State and judges them based on several categories covering every facet of the news industry. San Angelo had its time in the spotlight during the 2024 awards thanks to the KLST and KSAN news stations, which won in the "Feature Editing/General News" category of the "TV-Small" division.
The winning entry, "Legendary local shoe shiner Ernie Cantu shares his story," is a segment of the stations' Concho Valley Live programming that features a conversation between Cantu and Senora Scott, KLST and KSAN's assistant news director. Bobby Schuyler, KLST and KSAN's creative services and promotions director, edited the segment prior to its on-air release.
Scott and Schuyler attended the celebration ceremony and accepted the accolade on behalf of the news stations.
