SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The City of San Angelo has announced that the 2024 HA5 street maintenance project will begin May 9, changing how citizens will interact with certain streets while behind the wheel and at home. Here's how to tell if your commute will be affected and what will happen if it is.

According to the City, the project begins on May 9 and continues until May 16. During this time, roads that will be worked on will be closed at 7 a.m. before maintenance begins. Vehicles will be permitted to exit the area up until 7:30 a.m. Treated roads will remain closed 24 hours following HA5 application.

Access to roads undergoing treatment will be prohibited during the 24 hours that HA5 will be applied in front of their home. The Andale Construction company will provide shuttle services for residents wishing to travel from their vehicle to their home.

Vehicles parked on a street during its application time will be towed out of the maintenance zone by Home Motors, who will then tow the vehicle back to its original location after the road treatment cures. This towing process will be paid for by the City.

Citizens living on roads that will undergo HA5 application are asked to shut off sprinkler systems on the day of the road's treatment. This is because HA5 cannot be applied to roads made wet by sprinkler over-spray or runoff.

Residents can visit HA5info.com/sanangelo to see which roads will be affected and when they will be treated. They can also text "PRESERVATION" to 77222 to receive notifications about the road closures as they happen.

According to the City, "HA5 is a surface treatment that limits oxidative damage on asphalt from moisture and ultraviolet (UV) radiation." When compared to sealcoating, streets treated with HA5 are "cleaner, quieter, smoother and maintain their aesthetic black color for up to 8 years on average."
