SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — San Angelo City Council members discussed enforcing ordinances for short-term rental properties in San Angelo during a meeting on April 16.
The action comes in the number of property owners who are operating short-term rentals in the city. Council members approved a plan to start enforcing guidelines.
Officials say, on average, there are 120 to 150 short operating each weekend and only 28 are officially listed.
"The city is going to be more proactive in enforcement, and we also believe we've simplified the process so that more operators and property owners can come into compliance and do it legally and that's what we want is a symbiotic relationship that works for our community," said Aaron Vannoy with development services.
The city will now enforce the requirement that short-term rental owners obtain conditional use permits and pay hotel occupancy taxes. The city will also enforce an ordinance that says short-term rentals must be at least 500 feet apart, or away from a school unless they're in a commercial zone
