SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — River Crest Hospital officially became part of the Shannon Health System on the morning of Sept. 17, concluding a months-long acquisition process.

According to a Shannon representative, River Crest Hospital formally became Shannon River Crest Hospital at 12:01 a.m. Services provided by River Crest Hospital prior to its acquisition will still be continued.

The representative also stated that now that the hospital is in the Shannon Health System, plans are already being made to expand the location by incorporating 20 more hospital beds.

The finalized acquisition comes months after Shannon Medical Center announced on June 6 that it would acquire River Crest Hospital. Shane Plymell, president and chief executive officer of Shannon Medical Center, said in the announcement that the acquisition would "ensure community members of all ages who struggle with behavioral health and substance abuse issues will have expanded access to specialized care."

Shannon Medical Center also hosted its annual public meeting to discuss its Certificate of Public Advantage on Sept. 17 and the "positive changes and new services Shannon implemented over the last year as a result of the COPA," as per its announcement of the meeting. The certificate is a regulatory regime "adopted by state governments that are intended to displace competition among healthcare providers," according to the Federal Trade Commission.
