Description
SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) —A recent electrofishing survey was conducted at O.C Fisher Reservoir after the reservoir was reported critically low a month prior.
According to a social media post shared by Inland Fisheries San Angelo District - Texas Parks and Wildlife, the survey was conducted on Sept. 30 with no sportfish or prey species being found in the reservoir. Despite dissolved oxygen levels recorded lower than the 4 parts per million essential for the maintenance of aquatic life, Inland Fisheries noted a slow but steady increase in the dissolved oxygen levels and expected the levels to eventually return to normal.
Additionally, large amounts of decaying material due to the early September flood that brought 45,000 acre-feet of water, have been reported as the probable cause of the low dissolved oxygen levels.
Plans to re-stock the reservoir have been made a priority by Inland Fisheries after the dissolved oxygen levels improve.
