Description

SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — The National Weather Service of San Angelo has predicted weather conditions will cool slightly in the next seven days from the 100-degree temperatures seen last week, with thunderstorms and hail potentially accompanying the change.

According to NWS San Angelo, Monday, June 10, may see scattered showers and thunderstorms spread across West Central Texas during the afternoon hours. "A larger complex of storms" is also possible for parts of West Texas and Eastern New Mexico during the afternoon, which "may move east into the area this evening" and bring "large hail and damaging winds."

This trend is set to continue into Tuesday, June 11, with another complex of storms predicted to move southeast into regions of the Concho Valley Monday night that may stick around come Tuesday morning. The services also reported that scattered thunderstorms are possible by the afternoon, with most being "sub-severe." The strongest storms "may produce isolated instances of large hail and damaging winds," though.

As of the time of publication, NWS San Angelo's 7-day forecast indicates that the week's highs will largely stay in the 90-degree range. The coolest high sits at 90 F on June 10, while the hottest high is 100 F and is expected to occur on Saturday, June 15.

These temperatures follow a heat wave that swept across the Southwest the week before, consistently bringing temperature highs above 100 F to the Concho Valley. The 111 F high on Tuesday — which ousted the previous record of 107 F documented in 1916 — even got attention from Jimmy Fallon during an episode of "The Tonight Show."

Meanwhile, the stormy conditions predicted for Monday and Tuesday are also possible for Wednesday, June 12. The day currently sits at a 20% precipitation chance before 1 p.m. despite otherwise being a mostly sunny day, according to NWS San Angelo.
