SAN ANGELO - The Angelo State softball team continues its postseason run this weekend in Canyon, competing at the South Central Regional on the campus of West Texas A&M. The Rambelles open against a familiar opponent in Colorado Mesa on Thursday at 5 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT

The Rambelles defeated Eastern New Mexico 5-1 in the LSC quarterfinals before falling to eventual champions UT Tyler 6-4 in the semifinals. 

RAMBELLES RANKED NO. 8

The Rambelles are ranked eighth in the latest version of the NFCA Division II Top 25 Coaches Poll after spending the past six weeks in the seventh spot. The Rambelles are in the nation's top ten for the first time since the 2022 season and were in the top five for the first time since the beginning of the 2021 season. 

THREE NAMED TO ALL-TOURNEY TEAM

Three seniors - Cheyenne Floyd, Ashton McMillan, and Lauren De La Cruz - were named to the LSC All-Tournament Team last weekend. Floyd went the distance against Eastern New Mexico, allowing one run. McMillan led the Rambelles with a .571 average while De La Cruz had two hits, both of which went for extra bases. 

RAMBELLES EARN SEVEN ALL-LSC AWARDS

The Rambelles claimed seven all-conference awards, with four players named to the All-LSC First Team. Cheyenne Floyd, Laylonna Applin, Tatiana Trotter, and Averie Gunther featured on the first team, while Ashton McMillan earned second team honors. Floyd was named to the All-Academic Team for the second-straight year, while Trotter earned a Gold Glove. 

FLOYD RECORDS

Senior pitcher Cheyenne Floyd continues to put her name all over the career record book at Angelo State. The senior is second in program history in career ERA (1.97) and is first in opponent batting average (.200). Her 460 strikeouts for the Blue and Gold are the second most, and her 53 wins are the seventh most. 

SCOTT PASSES 1K CAREER WINS

Head coach Travis Scott won his 1,000th career game on Friday, March 28th, against UT Permian Basin. He is the first coach to win all 1,000 games in the Lone Star Conference. He won his first 101 games at Southeastern Oklahoma before winning the following 915 games at the helm of the Rambelles softball program.

  • Angelo State is 44-12 on the season and 6-1 at neutral site games this season. 
  • Over the past two seasons, the Rambelles have played ten games in Canyon, going 2-8. 
  • The Rambelles have exceeded the 40-win mark for the first time since 2018. 
  • The Rambelles' three seed this weekend is their highest in a regional since 2021, when they were also ranked third in the South Central. 
  • The Rambelles hit .313 as a team with a .508 slugging and a .415 on-base percentage. The Rambelles average 6.3 runs per game. 
  • Six Rambelles are hitting above .300 this season, led by Laylonna Applin's .436 batting average. Applin also leads the team in doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, slugging percentage, and on-base percentage.
  • Applin is third in the country in total bases with 149.
  • Ashton McMillan is hitting .368 and is second on the team with 47 RBI. 
  • Averie Gunther owns a .347 average this season; she has been hit by 18 pitches, the second-most in the LSC. 
  • Tatiana Trotter hits .325 this season and is second on the team in home runs, slugging percentage, and walks.
  • Carter Smith is hitting .308 and has been 13-for-29 from the plate since April 13th, which is good enough for a .448 average. 
  • Erin Plunkett is hitting .301, leading the LSC with 44 walks and second in the conference with 28 stolen bases.
  • The Rambelles' pitching staff has a 2.48 ERA and 268 strikeouts in 361.1 innings. Their opponent's batting average is .239 this season.
  • Cheyenne Floyd is 25-6 with two saves and a 1.69 ERA; she has 179 strikeouts in 161.2 innings. Opponents are hitting .178 against Floyd this season. 
  • Floyd is fifth in the country with 25 wins this season.
  • Matie Wolkow has nine career saves, one off tying the school record of ten, currently held by Morgan Hill.
  • The Rambelles have turned 23 double plays this season, 18th in the country. 
  • The Rambelles' .977 fielding percentage is the third-best in Division II and the best in the LSC. 
  • Abby Brand has thrown out 11 potential base stealers, the second-most in the conference.

  • Colorado Mesa is 39-15 on the season and 35-9 in RMAC play; they are 2-4 against LSC schools this season. 
  • The Mavericks fought through the loser's bracket to make the RMAC Tournament finals before falling 6-0 to champions Colorado Christian. 
  • The Mavericks are hitting .309 as a team, with a .501 slugging percentage and a .390 on-base percentage. They average 6.3 runs per game.
  • Myah Arrieta leads the team with a .408 average, 18 home runs, 61 RBI, and a .502 on-base percentage. Arrieta is the Division II active career leader with 502 total bases. 
  • Makayla Westmoreland is hitting .341 and leads the Mavs with ten stolen bases. 
  • Ally Distler is hitting .309 with 15 home runs and 55 RBI. Distler and Arrieta are fourth and fifth in Division II in career home runs, respectively. 
  • The Mavericks' pitching staff has a 2.77 ERA and has struck out 278 batters in 363.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .254 against the Mavs this season.
  • Senior Preslee Christensen leads the team with a 2.08 ERA and a .224 opponent batting average.
  • Redshirt freshman Jessalyn Gallegos leads CMU with an 18-4 record and 157 strikeouts in 164.1 innings. 
  • The Rambelles are 7-2 all-time against the Mavericks and 2-1 in the NCAA Tournament. They last met in the postseason in 2021, when the Mavericks defeated ASU 9-2 in the regional, ending the Rambelles' season. 
  • The Rambelles defeated Mesa 6-1 on opening weekend. Laylonna Applin went 2-for-3 with three RBI, and Ashton McMillan delivered a two-run, pinch-hit double in the sixth inning to clinch the victory. Gallegos, in relief, threw the final 6.2 innings, allowing five hits and three runs while recording seven strikeouts.
